A Comprehensive Guide to Glass Food Jar

Every kitchen needs good glass jars to keep food fresh. Whether you're storing baking ingredients (like flour and sugar), storing bulk grains (like rice, quinoa, and oats), or storing honey, jams, and sauces like ketchup, chili sauce, mustard, and salsa, you can't deny the versatility of glass storage jars!

This comprehensive guide explores the many benefits and considerations associated with food glass jars and lists hot food jars from ANT Glass Package that will hopefully help you make an informed choice and up your food storage game.

Benefits of glass food jars

Neutrality: The glass jar is completely inert to its contents. Glass components do not leach into food. This means that glass jars offer a high level of safety for the end customer!

Heat-resistant: Glass is heat-resistant. This quality is important for hot foods and sauces.

Aesthetics: Glass is perfect for high-end products. The high transparency allows consumers to visualize the contents in the jar. In addition to being transparent, glass is also shiny. This quality is used by brands to enhance their products.

Microwave and Dishwasher Safe: Many food glass jars are microwave and dishwasher-safe and easy to use. You can quickly reheat leftovers or sterilize jars.

Reusable and sustainable: Unlike disposable plastic containers, glass jars can be reused countless times, reducing waste and promoting sustainability.

Long shelf life: Glass is very durable and resistant to heat, cracks, chips, and scratches. Food glass jars can withstand repeated use and cleaning, making them a lasting investment!

What to consider when choosing a glass food jar

Food type: The first thing to consider is the type of your food (liquid, dense, solid, dry, etc.) and choosing the right packaging

Size and shape of glass food jar: Glass food jars come in a variety of sizes and shapes, so it's important to choose the right one for your particular needs. Think about the amount of food you need to store and the available space in your refrigerator or pantry.

Color of glass food jar: If you're packaging light-sensitive products (such as oils), you can choose a tinted glass that filters out UV rays.

Cap of glass food jar: Ensure the cover fits snugly to form a seal.

The production process of the glass food jar

To make glass packaging, silica sand, soda ash, limestone, and crushed materials are poured into a furnace heated to 1500°C to form molten glass. After the melting stage, the glass is uneven and contains many air bubbles. To remove these inclusions, the glass is refined, i.e. heated to higher temperatures and then to 1250°C, to obtain perfect glass viscosity. The liquid glass is then fed into channels that convey the glass to the forming machine at the perfect temperature and viscosity to form the final package. The glass is poured into a blank mold in the form of a drop (called a parison) and then into a finishing mold. This drop of glass can undergo two types of processes: pressing or blowing.

The pressure-blowing technique consists of pressing a glass droplet with a piston to form a blank and then injecting a stream of air into the pre-obtained preform to form the product into its final shape. This technique is preferred for the manufacture of glass jars. The second technique is blow molding in which the droplets are compressed and then perforated. The first blow molding then yields a pre-product and forms the neck. Another stream of air is injected into the finishing mold to shape the package. This method is the preferred method for manufacturing bottles.

Then comes the annealing stage. The molded product is heated in a firing arc and gradually cooled to a temperature of about 570°C to strengthen the glass. Finally, your glass jars are grouped and wrapped to ensure their protection.
